Date: 5/17/2005 Time: 11:00 PM Issue: Power Outage Notification - No Service Interruption Description: We received notification from Southern California Edison that our facility would experience an 8-10 hour outage starting at 11:00PM PST on Tuesday, May 17th to facilitate upgrades to their distribution network. We do not anticipate any service interruptions as our facility will be running on generator power during this time. --- UPDATE: 5/18/05 5:20AM --- All systems are running normally as we enter our 8th hour on Generator power. Systems are expected to return to the utility power source within the next 30 minutes. --- UPDATE 5/18/05 8:15AM --- Southern California Edison's upgrade didn't go as planned. They activated the new circuits at approximately 6:15AM, which resulted in an extremely loud bursting sound at the installation site, about 1000 ft from our facility. Electrical 101 tells us that probably means things didn't go well, and they didn't. A connecting terminal was improperly installed and we're now expecting to be running off generator backup power through 10:00AM, possibly later. On a positive note, we did get a detailed explanation and tour of the vaults that distribute power and fiber interducts to our building as nearly every utility company was on hand to make sure their equipment remained powered. --- UPDATE 5/18/05 9:15AM --- We've transferred back to utility power, and our on-site power generation equipment has been refueled for the next outage.
